“We want to remove as much CO2 as possible from the atmosphere as quickly as possible.” This is one of the main messages of Novocarbo CCO, Venna von Lepel, in a TV report about biochar recently broadcasted in ARTE Journal, the prime time news magazine of the German-French TV channel.
The film crew visited our new production facility at thyssenkrupp rothe erde in Lippstadt, which opened in November 2022. Implementing a carbonization plant into an industrial company is a big step on the path of decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries. With the facility in Lippstadt we can remove around 1,400 t of CO2 from the atmosphere every year. The COO of thyssenkrupp rothe erde, the world’s leading manufacturer of slewing bearings, explains how the company will use the green heat produced during the carbonization process.
For the TV report, the editor also interviewed a chemistry professor, who is doing research on biochar and its positive attributes. A farmer shows how the application of biochar helps his plants to be more resilient, which becomes more and more important, especially with longer dry periods expected for the next summers.
