The use of high-quality biochar in biogas plants has several advantages for the operators: The processes within the plant are stabilised and the capacity or gas yield of the input materials is increased. NovoCarbo specializes in this segment under the name NovoFerm.
NovoFerm offers the ideal livelihood for bacteria, enabling them to multiply well. This is due to the high amount of biochar, the large surface area and the pH value of the biochar, which provides a habitat for archaea in particular.
NovoFerm promotes fermentation. In the course of the pyrolytic process, pores and capillaries are formed during the production of biochar. These later provide pressures that ensure the substrate supply of the fermenting bacteria.
When added to biogas plants, NovoFerm can reach agricultural fields via fermentation residues. Once there, the biochar serves as a soil conditioner, as it stores nutrients and water available to the plants (cascade effect).
In cooperation with our experienced partner LUCRAT, the correct quantity and dosage for the biogas plant of our customers is calculated individually for each application. From this we develop the right strategy. The partnership with LUCRAT combines the process biological experience with the know-how to produce high-quality capillary biochar, which has been produced through many years of research and development.
